How has COVID-19 impacted on this year’s careers activity plan?
We usually run a Progression Day for all Year 12s when they visit local Universities/HE & FE colleges and start onward applications for completion in Autumn Term (UCAS, Oxbridge, Art Foundation etc.) We also run a Careers Enrichment day in July when all departmental curriculum areas run trips, visits and speakers linked to careers in their subjects. We also run a Specialist Application Info Evening in May, to inform parents/carers about Apprenticeships, Oxbridge, Medics, Visual Arts, Music & Dance conservatoires, study abroad etc. All these have had to be cancelled. In their place we have just run a virtual Progression Week for students and parents/carers and combined elements of all 3 into the online programme.
How do you anticipate COVID-19 impacting on next year’s careers activity plan?
We may have to severely limit delivery of portfolio courses for Year 13s - these are chosen to link with onward careers and progression ideas and support main curriculum programme.
